Authentic Malaysian Cooking, Straight from the Heart
Founded by Ana, LaZat Cooking is a Malaysian cooking school in Kuala Lumpur dedicated to preserving and sharing authentic Malaysian home cooking.
Our recipes reflect the rich diversity of Malaysian cuisine, bringing together Malay, Chinese and Indian culinary traditions passed down through generations. We cook with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, including herbs and spices grown in our own garden, and believe the best Malaysian food starts with quality ingredients and a generous helping of love.
Through our Malaysian cooking classes and market experiences, we invite you to go beyond simply learning recipes. Discover the ingredients, techniques, stories and traditions that make Malaysian food so unique—and take a true taste of Malaysia home with you.
As Ana always says:
“Massage your ingredients and fill them up with love.”
Who We Are
-
To honour and preserve Malaysia’s rich and diverse culinary heritage by sharing cherished family recipes, flavours, and traditions with the world. Through education and awareness, we strive to ensure these time-honoured dishes continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.
-
To make Malaysian cuisine accessible to all through immersive, educational, and enjoyable cooking experiences that celebrate authentic flavours and cultural traditions.
-
At LaZat Cooking, we believe the best way to understand Malaysian food is to experience it from market to table.
Our Malaysian cooking classes begin at the local market (Tuesday to Saturday), where you’ll meet trusted vendors, discover the ingredients behind Malaysian cuisine, and learn how to choose and use fresh local produce. It’s the same market we’ve sourced from for years, a connection that also allows us to support the small businesses at the heart of our local food culture.
Back in the kitchen, we bring traditional Malaysian cooking techniques to life, from using a batu lesung (stone mortar and pestle) to preparing recipes rooted in generations of home cooking. We also share practical tips and modern alternatives, so you can recreate authentic Malaysian dishes confidently wherever you are.
From Malay, Chinese, Indian and Nyonya cuisine to the stories and traditions behind each dish, our classes go beyond recipes. We make Malaysian cooking approachable, hands-on and meaningful, for curious food lovers of every skill level.

I attended a cooking class for the first time. The instructor was Saadiah. I learned how to make Nasi lemak, and she taught me very carefully, sharing information about Malaysian culture and family structures, which was very educational. I'm not a tourist; I live in Malaysia, but I regret not starting these lessons sooner. There's also a market visit, so I highly recommend it.

Visiting Malaysia from the USA and we were out in touch with Ana through a friend. We had an amazing time! The LaZat staff were very accommodating and made a vegetarian menu just for us. Everyone on the team is friendly and they all come from different culinary heritage. Special shout out to Sham who showed us authentic Indian cooking with a Malaysian twist. Would recommend LaZat in a heartbeat!

Lazat feels more like family than a cooking class. I was lucky enough in 2017 to learn from them so when I planned my birthday trip to Malaysia in 2026 with my extended family, a cooking class was #1 on my agenda. I opted for a private class for 8 people and it was such a fantastic experience. I can't wait to come back, thank you to the team you were wonderful.
